Le train est arrivé
Working on the Railroad The story of "my own personal experience" at Bishops Crossing is the only way I know to give you a good idea of just how much I believe the experience of this visit is worth the trip. I arrived early afternoon on Monday, September 3rd 2001, after having come from St-Evariste-de-Forsyth. (about an hours drive away). At first I was lost as neither Bishopton nor Dudswell are actually "on" the main road.

Once in Dudswell, I inquired at the "information center" aka "l'association touristique et culturelle de Dudswell" as to the whereabouts of Renaud Lalancette. I had written a letter to Renaud prior to leaving Florida for this journey. Well, as luck would have it, Renaud was out of town but the people at the center knew who I was (pretty amazing) and told me to go to Bishops Crossing and find Joanne Roubicek. So... that's what I did.

I turned down the road heading toward Bishopton and found the old Rebekah Hall. (pictured at right) I noticed a group of people standing around the train tracks (you can see a picture of this on the photos and history page). I parked my car on the street and went inside the hall. There, I asked for Joanne. I found her, told her my name, and from that moment on, it was as if we had know each other all of our lives.

Such is the story of my entire nine days in Québec. The people in the province are a National Treasure. No place on earth compares with the majestic beauty I discovered and no place in my life have I found people to compare with those I met in Québec.

My decision to visit Bishopton was the right choice...one I will never forget...and, if you decide to do the same thing, chances are, you won't forget it either.

Please, if you go to Québec, make plans to visit all of the fine folks at the "Bishops Crossing" shop and cafe at the old Rebekah Hall. Sit back, relax, enjoy the country cafe and general store atmosphere. You will find absolutely delicious cakes, candies and other treats. And you can wash it all down with a fine cup of "Dudswell Express" coffee. You may even be treated to some live "old-time" music while you're there. As a minimum, you may just return to simpler times when your friends were really friends and your neighbors were friends as well....and the whole world around you got along.
